Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Review, Best Xiaomi Mobile in Middle Class

One of the most diligent vendors in presenting Android phones almost every month is Xiaomi. This one vendor always presents several interesting product lines in each month, sometimes even the products that are present this month can be a "destroyer" for other Xiaomi products that were present one or two months ago.

As happened with the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. This one Xiaomi Android phone is presented by Xiaomi at the end of 2018 together with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro. The presence of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is considered a killer for the "Xiaomi Mi A2".

Xiaomi Mi A2 comes a few months earlier by offering actual price ranges and specifications not far from the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. The differentiator, this Xiaomi Mi A2 comes with pure Android OS while the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite comes with Android-based MIUI. Because the target market is quite similar, many say the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite actually competes with the Xiaomi Mi A2 itself.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Review, Best Xiaomi Mobile in Middle Class

Because of those things, I'm curious about the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. When this review was made and done, the prestige of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite has indeed dropped due to the hype of the presence of the Redmi Note 7. But this is not a problem. Why is this phone also still quite attractive.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Specifications

  • Chipset: Qualcomm SDM660 Snapdragon 660 (14 nm)
  • RAM & Memory: 6GB & 128GB
  • Camera: Dual 12 MP + 5 MP
  • Battery: 3350 mAh
  • Price Range: IDR 3,700,000

Design

One word that describes the design issues of Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is "Beautiful". The design is very cool and makes this phone look different when compared to the phone Xiaomi which is officially available in Indonesia. This factor made me interested in reviewing the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite comes with an alum frame Aluminum glass that makes the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite look luxurious. The positive thing because my criticism of Xiaomi phones is the design that always looks boring. Just look, there is almost no difference between the design of Xiaomi Redmi 4, Redmi 5, and also Redmi 6.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite actually presents a design concept that is not boring. In Indonesia, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite comes with Aurora Blue and Midnight Black models. Both of these models have a pretty appearance, especially for the Aurora Blue variant like the model I reviewed.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Aurora Blue looks beautiful. Not just beautiful, with a glass wrapper design, making this phone look shiny. The effect, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite looks like a pretty expensive cellphone. Indeed, lately the middle class cellphone models, even cheap class phones come with a shiny looking design.

Not only comes with a beautiful design, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is relatively comfortable. With a thickness of only 7.5 mm, this phone is quite fit to be held in one hand.

The four corners of this phone that are rounded like most of today's cellphones are also other factors that make this phone comfortable to hold. It's just that, holding this cellphone needs to be a little careful because the back is slippery in the hand.

The effect of using glass frames does make the body behind the phone slippery. In addition to slippery, the use of glass frames also makes the rear body leaving fingerprints. Therefore, the best solution is clearly to put a transparent case on this cellphone.

In the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite sales package itself, a cash register is provided so you don't need to buy other casings, unless of course if you want a case with other forms or materials, you definitely have to buy it elsewhere. But make sure the case that is purchased is compatible with the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, mainly because of the side factors on this phone.

The side factor that I mean is about the existence of the volume button and the power button on the right which is certainly not beautiful if you have to close the case. While on the left side, there is a slot for SIM that turns out to come with a hybrid concept, so you have to choose to use two SIM cards or one SIM card with microSD.

At the top, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite only features mic holes and antenna lines. While at the bottom, there are speakers on the right and left flanking the USB Type-C port. Well, USB Type-C port, not a micro USB port.

The presence of this USB Type-C port is clearly interesting. Because, not many mobile phones in the middle class have already presented a USB Type-C port. Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is actually present to offer it even though then it becomes unattractive, because other phones are cheaper, but the Samsung Galaxy M20 comes with a USB Type-C port.

Another important note about the USB Type-C is the presence of a USB Type-C converter to the audio jack in the sales package. The presence of this converter is clearly a solution for those who want to use a headset because the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite does not have a 3.5 mm audio jack port.

Screen

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite offers IPS LCD screens with 6.36-inch screen dimensions. This screen has a screen-to-body ratio of 82.5%. The ratio of the screen to the body of the phone is indeed quite large because this phone comes with a pretty thin bezel on each side.

Only at the top, this phone comes with a fairly short notch. Notch is not too annoying because indeed the presence of Notch is already used on many cellphones today.

Oh well, speaking of the screen, this Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite screen comes with a 9: 9 ratio with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. The screen itself has a density of 403 ppi. The screen density is quite good for a full HD + cellphone.

The screen display of this phone is also quite sharp. The colors shown are good and tend to be striking. There are no complaints about the screen on the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. Only complaint is when I try the screen in direct sunlight. The screen is slightly dim even though you have used enough brightness.

User Interface

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite comes with a MIUI interface that is based on Android 8 Oreo. This MIUI is one of the best interface displays which is also a factor why Xiaomi phones are popular.

MIUI on the Xiaomi MI 8 Lite itself comes with MIUI 9 when the phone is first turned on. But this phone can get an update to MIUI 10, precisely MIUI 10.2 Global.

MIUI on the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is really cool. The appearance of the application icon that looks box does not seem boring. MIUI also includes a choice of ways to move applications that are quite good, namely with a square system down that can display other applications that are running.

With multi-tasking switching like this, it makes it easy for me to move applications easily. I can peek at what application I opened earlier. In addition, the transfer of this application also feels smoother than other UI.

MIUI also offers navigation that can be exchanged. Generally, phones with pure Android OS or Android OS mostly place the recent apps button on the right and the back button on the left. MIUI is exactly the opposite, but for those who are used to being able to swap this position in the settings section.

Another interesting thing from MIUI is the notification section and the attractive display icon settings. Compared to pure Android OS, this display is more interesting and not boring. Likewise with the square notification design section that looks more attractive.

Performance

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite comes with the Snapdragon 660 chipset, a favorite chipset that is widely used in mobile phones output in 2018. The presence of Snapdragon 660 on this phone clearly rivals some other phones with the same chipset, say, Vivo V11 Pro, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2, Realme 2 Pro, even Xiaomi Mi A2.

With a price range of IDR 3 million, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite with Snapdragon 660 is indeed still quite interesting. There's no doubt about the performance in Snapdragon 660. Moreover, the Snapdragon 660 in the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite comes with a speed of 2.2 GHz.

To note, some of the Snapdragon 660 phones come with a maximum speed of 1.9 GHz (CPU downgrade) like the one in Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 and Realme 2 Pro. This decrease in speed is usually intended so that the cellphone does not overheat.

Game Performance

For the performance of the game, this Xiaomi MI 8 LIte is already present, it is quite qualified to run various popular games well. Adreno 512 is certainly a factor that makes the performance of the game on this phone run well. This GPU is quite enough to run a popular game well.

The GFX Bench benchmark test results show this. Some tests such as the T-Rex at 1080p and Tessellation at 1080p show that the FPS numbers are quite decent. On Tessellation, the fps number obtained is 26 fps with 781 frames. While in the T-Rex, the fps number obtained is 47 fps with 2,647 frames.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite can be said to have a GFX Bench score with a medium score and worth playing. But of course based on benchmark figures alone is not enough. Therefore, let's test this Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite with three Android games to see fps scores and see overall fps performance.

Rear Camera

Talking about cellphones at this time, certainly not separated from the camera. And this part is usually the most interesting because now people are looking for cellphones not only for communication and internet but also for photography.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite clearly doesn't miss the photography sector. What's more, the Xiaomi Mi 8 series is well-known as a cellphone with good camera quality, for example the Xiaomi Mi 8 or Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro. Of course Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is not the same class as the second cellphone but the camera sector is still quite competitive.

The camera used in the back is not the same as the Xiaomi Mi 8. The Xiaomi Mi 8 comes with a 12 MP + 12 MP dual camera getting a high DxOMark score of 99. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite also comes with a dual camera, only one camera with 12 sensors Another MP and one camera comes with a 5 MP sensor that functions as a sensor dept.

Although it does not come with a 12 MP second camera like the Xiaomi Mi 8, the dept sensor camera on this phone comes with good bokeh effect capabilities. As seen in the capture of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite camera above which is able to create a blur effect in the background quite well.

To use this blur feature, simply select portrait mode in the camera section. In this section, there are also other mode options such as shooting with box mode, panoramas, manual mode, and even features to make short videos like videos for Insta Story.
Rear camera

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite also offers food shooting options. This feature is very useful for those of you who like food photos, such as food bloggers, food photographers, or anyone who likes to show photos of food on social media.

This food photo mode appears to provide photo quality that is slightly different when compared to normal photo mode with the same object, namely food. The feature of food portrait mode makes the food look more pleasing to the eye, aka it will make the viewer hungry for eyes. Moreover, the details are quite sufficient.

For photo quality of the back camera, Xiaomi MI 8 Lite can be said to be good in capturing objects. The choice of photo mode is quite a lot and the catch of the camera is practically okay in its class.

Of course this can be achieved thanks to the AI feature which is indeed on this Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite rear camera. To see the catch of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite rear camera, please look at the following photos. If you view the results of the photos above, Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is able to present good images in its class.

This phone is also quite good in capturing images in rather dark light conditions. The result is classified as minimal noise, although certainly not so perfect, but for the price class, the catch of Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is quite good.

Front Camera On the front, the Samsung Galaxy M20 comes with an 8 MP front camera. This camera comes with openings f / 2.0 and has an HDR feature. On this front, there are several camera features such as beauty mode, live focus and stickers. Sticker features are of course interesting, especially for those who like selfies. The front camera is the main selling value that can be offered from the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. Why not, the quality of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite's front camera is quite good, even better.

Unfortunately, Xiaomi does not offer too much selfie as the main selling point of this Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. The 24 MP camera sensor that supports the Auto HDR feature is the "weapon" behind the good quality of selfie on this cellphone. This front camera also has features similar to the rear camera, of course minus the panorama.

So, what are the results of the quality of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite rear camera? You can see the following capture of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite camera. It can be seen that the front camera catches are relatively good, even tend to be detailed. In addition, this front camera also supports shooting with selfie group mode, which means the camera supports group selfies.

Battery

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite comes with a battery with a capacity of 3,350 mAh. This battery is Li-Po type and certainly like most other cellphones, this cellphone battery comes with a non-removable type.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite battery capacity cannot be said to be ugly but it is also not special. Durability is quite good and tends to be positive. With up to 79% power consumption, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite offers an active screen for over 11 hours.

The benchmark PC Work 2.0 results showed a score of 11 hours 57 minutes. Not the oldest because other phones in the same price class can reach more. But this score shows that the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite's power consumption isn't too bad either.

For charging, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite comes with a fairly fast charging. The charging time is approximately 100 minutes.

I once tested charging from a battery consumption of only 1%, can be filled up to 100% with a travel time of 1000 minutes. This fast charging is because the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite itself supports Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

Audio

In the audio sector, nothing is so special about the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. The quality of the audio produced sounds ordinary but is quite loud. It is the presence of two speakers on the bottom of the cellphone. There is no problem for this sector.
Conclusion

Based on my experience using Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, I can conclude if Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is a Xiaomi phone that is indeed worth buying. Even though the Redmi Note 7 will come with the same chipset, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is still worth choosing.

There are many advantages that this phone can offer but of course there are also some disadvantages inherent in the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. The most common drawback and infecting almost all Xiaomi phones is the absence of NFC. So the absence of NFC on this mobile phone seems like a natural thing.

Here are the details of the advantages and disadvantages of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite.

The advantages of Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite The performance is okay The back and front cameras are nice Beautiful glass design The screen is okay The MIUI user experience that deserves to be appreciated Quick Charge and USB Type-C

Lack of Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Slippery glass body design in hand The presence of advertisements in MIUI Normal battery power consumption No 3.5mm jack, but available USB Type C converter accessories to 3.5mm jack

With various advantages and disadvantages offered, Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is a really good cellphone in its class. You who need a Xiaomi phone with good performance, good front and rear camera, and a sleek body design, deserve to choose this phone.

One of the most diligent vendors in presenting Android phones almost every month is Xiaomi. This one vendor always presents several interesting product lines in each month, sometimes even the products that are present this month can be a "destroyer" for other Xiaomi products that were present one or two months ago.
